The Full Meaning of IJMB

IJMB explicitly means Interim Joint Matriculation Board while IJMBE which means Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination. IJMB is an advance level examination pioneered, supervised and monitored by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. It includes a two semesters session that lapse for Seven (7) – Nine (9) months after which the student is qualified to write the university direct entrance examination.

Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMB) was established as a substantive alternative to Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which over the years fights with mass failure and insecure admission for students.

As record shows, JAMB secures admission for just 400,000 of the over 1.5 Million aspirants that annually apply for the exam. Most importantly, the number account for only  30% of the total aspirants make the admission lists and the majority of who ends up in polytechnics and colleges of education. In fact, those that make it to university will either not get their desired university or course of study.

IJMB is a direct entry examination to 200 level in any university with the freedom to choose courses and universities you desire. It is a hugely successful examination over the years.

With least numbers of aspirants when compare with JAMB and other matriculation examinations. IJMB flourishes with high level of intake by prominent and outstanding universities in Nigeria.

IJMB results also lasts more than 7 years. With this added advantage, any successful IJMB candidate is qualify for admission for & consecutive admission year if he or she could not secure admission in the first attempt.

It also provides room for awaiting O ‘level results. With IJMB, you can use two seating results to apply for admission to any of the Nigerian universities that accepts IJMB.

IJMB courses are also reflective of the UTME sort of four (4) courses. The registration is also stress-free since your coaching centre will be in charge to help you facilitate your registration with less change for errors.

Sincerely, we have seen students that forfeit their admissions because of the JAMB do-it-with-cafe error-prone registration system in which any public cybercafes can register students. In such scenarios, café operators while rushing often mistype student’s results remarks and or names during the registration process and automatically disqualified them for admission in many universities (Not all though, but I was a victim!).

Also, in institution like University of Ilorin  running a minimum required Cumulative Grade Point Average to check a student’s performance before proceeding to the next academic level, IJMB gives a huge room to bypass this system. Although, the same rules apply to the direct entry students but a sound advanced level programme as IJMB will have enriched any student who could make great points in the examination with tools necessary to handle university examinations.

It is unfortunate, however, that IJMB has few formally recognized centres. No doubt, the huge opportunities lurking in the examination for candidates and its success over the years has drawn many audience to both IJMB and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Invariably, the rise of fake/illegal centres is undeniable. It is therefore important for candidates to scrutinize whatever private centre he/she wants to register with before getting duped. Else, the resources at IJMB Reviewer is at every aspirants disposal to administer such checks.

Legally, a IJMB programmes are officially within the terrains of accredited college of educations. However, the market has been popularized by private coaching centres who prove to train students more effectively for the examination. With estimated success rate as high as 92% from the privately registered and tutored students.

The sad news, nevertheless, is the presence of some private centres that merely register students, bill them in high prices and do not provide necessary facilities to help them achieve success in their IJMB exam. It is quite painful for the news we have heard over the years from students that moved from centres to centres, having need to pay the new centre afresh.

At IJMB Reviewer, we often receive reports of total carelessness from the tutors and centres’ management body. It is on this group, we serve to provide objective to aspirants so not to fall victim of these centres.

On arriving to Ilorin, however, the table turned and different ball game was offered. The sweet voices he heard on phone turned to the ones that doesn’t care about coming to class nor provide necessary materials for him to succeed in his upcoming IJMB examination.

After consulting IJMB Reviewer, Prudent learnt about better IJMB centres with great facilities in Ilorin where he later finished his IJMB program and had great points that secure admission.
